The editorial "The Polar Bear Express" (Jan. 28), referring to the latest environmentalist icon, should have added that unless the polar bears are a very recent species, these animals evidently managed to survive a considerably warmer period about 1000 years ago, when "Greenland" was named and settled by the Norse.
