REIT Index Is Volatile

The Dow Jones Equity All REIT Total Return Index has been volatile for most of 2008, peaking so far at 871.95 on Feb. 1 and bottoming out on Jan. 21 at 755.36. The index closed yesterday at 817.37.Real-estate investment trusts, or REITs, are companies that invest in real estate and pay out at least 90% of their income in dividends. The Dow Jones Equity All REIT Total Return Index is constructed to include virtually the entire U.S. REIT universe on a continuing basis.
