A Rare Opportunity to See These Birds
Full Text (109 words)"Audubon's Aviary: Portraits of Endangered Species"; The New-York Historical Society; Feb. 8 through March 16; nyhistory.org or 212-873- 3400
Though the birds featured in this exhibit have become extinct or soon may become so, their trills can be heard and their beauty savored at this multisensory exhibit showcasing more than 40 large watercolors by John James Audubon (1785-1851). Though Audubon's exquisite depictions serve as treasured records of these species, the watercolors themselves are delicate and sensitive to light, making this a rare opportunity to see them -- they will go into a 10-year hibernation once the exhibit ends. A video from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology complements the show.
