The chief justice of West Virginia's Supreme Court recused himself from a second case involving Massey Energy Co., after questions about his friendship with the coal operator's chief executive. Wheeling- Pittsburgh Steel Corp. sought the disqualification of Justice Elliott "Spike" Maynard as it prepares to defend the $240 million judgment it won from Massey, based in Richmond, Va., in a civil case.
