FCC Challenged On Cable Ruling
The National Cable & Telecommunications Association filed notice that it was challenging part of a recent federal government ruling striking down exclusive contracts between cable companies and apartment buildings.
The lobby group filed a motion to stay part of the rule approved by the Federal Communications Commission last year that rendered illegal the agreements between cable operators and apartment and condominium owners. The motion was filed with the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington.
The NCTA has argued that in 2003, the FCC decided not to interfere in the contracts between cable and apartment and condo owners. It said this emboldened cable companies to go out and sign more of the agreements.
An FCC spokeswoman declined to comment.
