United Technologies Corp.'s fourth-quarter net income rose 23%, lifted by broad strength across its major units that more than offset continued weakness in the U.S. housing sector. Shares of the manufacturer were up $3.74, or 5.6%, to $70.98 in 4 p.m. New York Stock Exchange composite trading. Executives said they have seen no recent warning signs to indicate the broad trends driving the company's growth could be short-lived. Greg Hayes, vice president of accounting and finance, forecast continued strong demand in Asia as well as solid demand in most of the company's markets in Europe and North America.
