Architecture Index
Moves Slightly Higher
The Architecture Billings Index inched up last month, rising to 55.4 from 55.3 in November. "As the country braces for a possible recession in 2008, there will likely be an easing in demand for design services," said Kermit Baker, chief economist at the American Institute of Architects. He added that because billings were strong in the past two years, architects should remain busy and nonresidential construction could be "one of the sources of strength in an otherwise uneven economy."
