The Hitch With Hitchens

Full Text (133  words)

In regard to Christopher Hitchens'"The Perils of Identity Politics" (op-ed, Jan. 18): It is all very well for Mr. Hitchens to say we should put race or national origin or sex behind us. But consider the source. Mr. Hitchens has constantly attacked Republican candidate Mitt Romney about his religion. Mr. Hitchens has had the nerve on many occasions to tell Mr. Romney what he believes! Isn't Mr. Romney the best judge of what he believes?

Mr. Hitchens' inflammatory rhetoric about Mormons is far beyond that of the most misogynistic and racist of modern candidates. If anyone has the right to criticize the recent exchange between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, it most certainly is not Christopher Hitchens, who lacks the moral authority to write an opinion piece like this.
