WEEKEND JOURNAL; Sports -- Games on TV: Picks
Jan. 19-25
-- New York Giants at Green Bay Packers: The Giants enter the NFC Championship game looking nothing like the team the Packers pummeled, 35-13, at the Meadowlands earlier this season. The sudden confidence of their quarterback, Eli Manning, has drawn notice. But the bigger story may be the rejuvenated play of defensive end Michael Strahan, who -- like the Packers passer he will try to attack, Brett Favre -- seems to improve every time someone questions whether he's ready to retire.
(6:30 p.m. Sunday, in HD on Fox)
-- Buick Invitational: Tiger Woods makes his 2008 debut at an event he has won three consecutive times. The television coverage should be interesting: This marks the scheduled return of Golf Channel announcer Kelly Tilghman, who was suspended for joking that the best strategy to defeat Tiger might be to "lynch him in a back alley."
(3 p.m. Thursday, in HD on the Golf Channel)
All times Eastern; TV schedules subject to change
