Mr. Scott, 56 years old, will manage the software giant's 4,000- person global information technology operation that manages critical technology systems supporting the company's worldwide sales, marketing and services efforts.
He takes over the role previously held by Stuart Scott, who was fired in November for "violating company policies," said Microsoft, which didn't disclose the details behind the firing. General Manager Shahla Aly and Vice President Alain Crozier filled in after the firing.
Tony Scott, who will report to Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner, most recently held the position of information chief at Walt Disney Co. Prior to that, he served as chief technology officer at General Motors Corp. and vice president of operations at Bristol-Myers Squibb Co.
