Berkshire Again Increases Burlington Stake
OMAHA, Neb. -- Berkshire Hathaway Inc., the investment vehicle for investor Warren Buffett, increased its stake again in Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp., acquiring $73.8 million of the railroad company's stock this week, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
With this purchase, Mr. Buffett's stake in BNSF rises to almost 17.9%. Mr. Buffett bought 141,400 shares of the Fort Worth, Texas, company for $78.18 each on Monday, and 807,400 shares for $77.69 each on Tuesday. After the latest purchases, Berkshire Hathaway holds about 62.53 million shares of BNSF, according to the filing.
Mr. Buffett's purchases of BNSF shares this week follow disclosures on Jan. 10 that his investment firm had bought $58.2 million in stock in the railroad last week, the first since October. In October, Berkshire had reported holding a 17.2% stake, or 60.83 million shares, in BNSF.
