Barbers' Poles Beat Polls, Good Data at a Good Clip

Michael Barone's pre-New Hampshire comment that hairdressers and barbers are as good as pollsters was on the mark ("The 16-Year Itch," Jan. 4).

As editorial page editor of the old St. Louis Globe-Democrat, I conducted "barber polls" that were as good or better than the so- called scientific ones.
