It is indeed unfortunate that Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper isn't well educated with respect to the laws of cause and effect. He points to the increasing violence triggered by marijuana prohibition to justify cranking it up ("Canada's Tolerance on Marijuana Fades," Politics & Economics, Jan. 8) and complains about a culture that finds marijuana acceptable when he is, in fact, in the minority of those who don't find it acceptable.

His minority opinions seem to mesh well with his minority government.
