Letters: Skiing, Near and Far; [Letter]
Full Text (133 words)To the Editor: I find it interesting that just after the Escapes section featured an article about the numerous ski destinations in New York State, Travel published The Family Ski Challenge (Jan. 13), on an affordable family ski vacation at Copper Mountain in Colorado (above).
Since when is $2,641 for a four-day vacation for three affordable? My family plus another (four adults and six children) recently skied Belleayre Mountain in the Catskills for four days for less than that. This included tickets, accommodations, rentals, meals and so on, and only an hour-and-a-half travel time each way (and virtually no lift lines). As the Escapes article shows, family ski vacations are more affordable if you look in your own backyard.
