Going Live From Pyongyang; [Brief]
Full Text (140 words)The New York Philharmonic's concert in North Korea, to take place on Feb. 26 at the East Pyongyang Grand Theater, will be broadcast live internationally. The broadcast will be produced by the New York Philharmonic and EuroArts Music International, in co-production with the Munhwa Broadcasting Company of South Korea and ARTE France, and in cooperation with the European Broadcasting Union. Details of the broadcast in the United States are to be announced later. The concert, to be conducted by Lorin Maazel, above, the orchestra's music director, will include the national anthems of North Korea and the United States; the Prelude to Act III of Wagner's Lohengrin; Dvorak's Symphony No. 9, From the New World; and Gershwin's American in Paris. The concert, and the Philharmonic's visit, have aroused controversy, with some contending that they offer legitimacy to North Korea's government.
