Ad Trade Group to Name

Its First Female President

The largest trade organization for the advertising industry is poised to name a woman as its leader for the first time in its 91-year history.

Nancy Hill, a longtime agency executive, has been nominated as president and chief executive at the American Association of Advertising Agencies in New York. The board of the organization, known as the Four A's, is scheduled to vote Tuesday on her selection. Ms. Hill, if approved, would succeed O. Burtch Drake, who was named the president and chief executive in January 1994. Mr. Drake announced last spring that he intended to retire at the end of 2007.

The choice of Ms. Hill was confirmed by executives involved in the process who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the selection before the meeting. Her identity was first disclosed Thursday by adage.com.

A spokesman for the Four A's, Kipp Cheng, said he could not speculate on the selection because it required the confirmation of the board.

Ms. Hill had most recently been North American chief executive at Lowe Worldwide in New York, an agency owned by the Interpublic Group of Companies. She has worked for agencies like BBDO Worldwide, part of the Omnicom Group.
