The substitute Elrio van Heerden scored a late goal to give South Africa a 1-1 tie against Angola on Wednesday in its opener at the African Cup of Nations in Tamale, Ghana. Alberto Manucho, who recently signed with Manchester United, scored on a diving header in the 30th minute, but Van Heerden tied the score for South Africa in the 88th. Senegal and Tunisia tied, 2-2, in the other Group D match.
