Transportation officials in Johannesburg are to fit the city's traffic lights with solar power backups to ease the gridlock caused by power cuts, the newspaper The Star reported. South Africa has been plagued by rolling blackouts over the last two weeks, with consumers left without power for up to four hours on a daily basis. They have also left motorists in the country's biggest city fuming, with the daily commute often taking three times the normal length.
