Mellon Millions Foster New Plays; [Brief]
Full Text (146 words)Using a $2.7 million grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Public Theater is starting a play series with its resident LAByrinth Theater Company. As part of the series, a new play, in a development stage somewhere between a staged reading and a full-blown production, will be put on every month, and here's the kicker: All tickets will be $10. This is not just for up-and-coming playwrights; most writers in the first series have already up and come. The series begins on Feb. 4 with Mom, How Did You Meet the Beatles? by Adam P. Kennedy and Adrienne Kennedy. Other writers in the series include Naomi Wallace, John Belluso, Tracey Scott Wilson and the musical-writing team of Steve Cosson and Michael Friedman. The LAByrinth's previously announced Penalties and Interest by Rebecca Cohen and Sweet Storm by Scott Hudson will round out the series in June.
