Congo: Rebels Sign Deal To End Eastern Conflict; [Brief]
Full Text (89 words)
Rebel groups in eastern Congo signed a peace agreement with the government to end fighting in the last remaining war zone in the country. After a delay caused by last-minute objections from the rebel group, led by Laurent Nkunda, left, a Congolese Tutsi general, the sides agreed to a cease-fire, with the rebels to disarm eventually and join the national army under the supervision of a technical commission. More than 400,000 people have been forced from their homes in the past year by continuing violence in eastern Congo.
