Feb. 16-22

-- Detroit Red Wings at Dallas Stars: The NHL's top two teams meet for the third time this season. Detroit dominated Dallas in winning both previous games by a combined score of 7-1. But the balance of power may be tilting: The Red Wings entered play Friday night stuck in their worst slump of the season. (3:30 p.m. Sunday, in HD on NBC)

-- Daytona 500: Nascar's year begins with the spotlight squarely on two-time defending points champion Jimmie Johnson, who's trying to become the first driver to win three straight series titles since Carl Yarborough in 1976-78. Mr. Johnson won the pole for this 50th running of Nascar's biggest race. (3:30 p.m. Sunday, in HD on Fox)

-- Los Angeles Lakers at Phoenix Suns: One of the best NBA rivalries becomes more interesting with the Suns' recent acquisition of Shaquille O'Neal, who won three titles with the Lakers. Mr. O'Neal, who has been out with a hip injury, hopes to make his Suns debut in this game, the first following the All-Star break. (9 p.m. Wednesday, in HD on ESPN)
