Encore (A Special Report); Editor's Note

Full Text (188  words)

ONE THING WE try to do with each issue of Encore is to get you to think about retirement and later life -- how you might spend your time and money. As it turns out, a lot of people are thinking about your retire-ment, and our cover story tells you what they have in mind.

Kelly Greene, a staff reporter in The Wall Street Journal's Atlanta bureau, asked experts in aging across the country to identify those individuals whose ideas and work are likely tohave the biggest impact on the future of retirement. The 12 people she profiles already are pushing their plans out of offices and labs and into older adults' lives. We think it makes for an instructive and fascinating read.

Elsewhere in this issue, we look at changes in the alumni travel market, the mysteries of spousal benefits and Social Security, and the joys of retiring on the Oregon coast. Again, we hope these articles give you some good ideas about how people are planning for and enjoying retirement -- and help you do the same.

As always, we look forward to hearing your comments.
