Money-Market Funds Expand

NEW YORK -- Money-market mutual-fund assets increased by $25.31 billion to $3.388 trillion for the week ended Wednesday, up from an adjusted $3.361 trillion, according to the Investment Company Institute.

Assets of the 842 retail-class shares increased by $772 million to $1.223 trillion, the institute said.

Among retail-class shares, assets of the 545 taxable shares increased by $2.62 billion to $930.74 billion, and assets of the 297 tax-exempt shares decreased by $1.85 billion to $292.71 billion.

Assets of the 1,179 institutional-class shares increased by $24.53 billion to $2.164 trillion. Among institutional-class shares, assets of the 916 taxable shares increased by $27.22 billion to $1.979 trillion, and assets of the 263 tax-exempt shares decreased by $2.68 billion to $184.95 billion.
