Acer Inc.: Net Profit Increases 77%; PC Shipments Expected to Rise

Acer Inc., the world's third-largest personal-computer vendor by market share after Hewlett-Packard Co. and Dell Inc., said its fourth- quarter net profit rose 77% from a year earlier. Acer said it expects its notebook-PC unit shipments to rise 40% and its total PC shipments to increase 30% to 35% this year. Fourth-quarter net profit rose to $2.3 billion New Taiwan dollars (US$71.9 million) from NT$1.3 billion a year earlier, but it fell from NT$2.92 billion in the third quarter of 2007. Acer didn't give a reason for the increase in fourth-quarter net profit, which was below the average NT$2.46 billion forecast of five analysts surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires.
