Crisil Ltd.: S&P Unit Aims to Form Credit-Information Firm

Indian credit-rating company Crisil Ltd. has entered into a preliminary tie-up with Equifax Inc. and Tata Capital Ltd. to establish a credit-information company in India. Crisil has asked the Indian central bank for permission to start and operate such a company. The retail-finance market in India is expected to grow at about 20% annually over the next five years, helped by favorable demographics, increases in disposable income and changing lifestyles. Lenders will require reliable information, Crisil said. Crisil is a unit of Standard & Poor's Corp., and Tata Capital is a unit of Tata Sons Ltd., the holding company of the Tata Group.
