Starwood Hotels & Resorts: Zell Affiliates Acquire Stake as Investment

Affiliates of Tribune Co. Chairman Samuel Zell yesterday acquired a 7.72% stake in Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc., but said it is solely for investment purposes, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Mr. Zell said he "has no intention of participating in the formulation, determination or direction of the basic business decisions" of the hotel company.
