Mitsubishi Electric Corp.: Profit Edges Up on Strength In Home, Industrial Sectors

Mitsubishi Electric Corp.'s third-quarter net profit edged up 0.4% amid strength in its industrial-machinery and home-electronics businesses. The Japan-based electrical-machinery maker said net in the three months ended Dec. 31 was 42.34 billion yen ($397.2 million), compared with 42.16 billion yen a year earlier. Sales rose 4.6% to 911.91 billion yen, owing to strength in such business segments as industrial machinery and home electronics. The company's industrial- machinery business remained strong on steady gains in corporate capital spending on factory-automation systems. The company said the home-electronics segment performed well on solid sales of air- conditioning and solar-power systems.
