Micron, Intel Upgrade Memory Chips

Micron Technology Inc. and Intel Corp. today are announcing a five- fold increase in the performance of memory chips used for applications such as digital cameras and portable media players.

The companies operate a joint venture to produce chips known as NAND flash memory.

Micron said the companies believe they are the first to meet a new performance specification defined by an industry standard-setting group.
