Lockheed Martin: Texas Plant to Cut 650 Jobs As F-35 Shifts to Production
Full Text (126 words)Lockheed Martin said it plans to cut 650 positions at its Fort Worth, Texas, plant where it has about 4,000 employees involved in building the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, a fighter plane being developed for the Pentagon and American allies. Another 200 people will likely be given other positions within the company, a Lockheed spokesman said. The spokesman said the move is due to a shift from engineering and design work on the program to the production phase. The first workers who will be cut can expect to receive notice next month and are expected to leave in April. The rest will leave sometime this summer, the spokesman said. The Forth Worth plant employs about 14,000 workers in total. Bethesda, Md.-based Lockheed has about 140,000 employees.
