Mazda Motor Corp.: President Tries to Ease Worries About Impact of Stronger Yen

Full Text (94  words)

Mazda Motor Corp. President Hisakazu Imaki said the company can generate a profit at the current yen-dollar exchange rate, as he sought to ease worries about prospects for the car maker's earnings. Mazda, an affiliate of Ford Motor Co. of the U.S., is more vulnerable to fluctuations in foreign-exchange rates than most Japanese car makers. Production for export accounted for 81% of its domestic output last year. But Mr. Imaki said the recent firmer level of the yen wasn't a major problem. The dollar last week hit a 2 1/2-year low against the yen.
