Caterpillar, an important barometer of U.S. economic health, posts earnings. Rattled by a grim U.S. construction market, Caterpillar has increasingly relied on its global footprint and sales of equipment for the oil and gas industry, but last quarter struck a gloomy note and lowered its full-year outlook.
