Renault SA: Electric Car Is Planned For Sale in Israel in 2011

Renault SA of France and partner Nissan Motor Co. of Japan signed a deal to begin mass-producing electric cars as part of an Israeli-led project. Project Better Place, a California-based company backed by venture capital, will set up a recharging grid using electricity from renewable sources. Carlos Ghosn, chief executive of Renault and Nissan, said the cars will go about 60 miles in the city and 100 miles on the highway on a charge and have a top speed of 70 miles per hour. The cars, to be made in Europe, will run on a lithium-ion battery developed by Renault and NEC Corp. of Japan and will be available in 2011.
