Northern Trust Corp.'s fourth-quarter net income dropped 27%, despite strong revenue growth, amid previously announced litigation charges. The Chicago financial-services firm said results included a charge of 42 cents a share related to the antitrust lawsuit settlement between Visa Inc. and American Express Co. Meanwhile, revenue rose 25% to $972 million for the latest period, above forecasts by analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial for $916 million. Northern Trust's return on equity, a key measure of profitability at financial companies, dropped to 11.3% from 17.1%. Northern Trust's shares were up $2.75, or 3.9%, to $72.53 in 4 p.m. Nasdaq Stock Market composite trading.
