Tina Brown to Write Clinton Book

Full Text (187  words)

Tina Brown, whose portrait of the late Princess Diana, "The Diana Chronicles," confounded skeptics by becoming a national best seller last summer, has a new book project: "The Clinton Chronicles."

Ms. Brown, a former editor of the New Yorker and Vanity Fair, has signed a contract with Bertelsmann AG's Doubleday imprint to deliver an intimate look at former President Bill Clinton and Sen. Hillary Clinton, now running for president. Ms. Brown received an estimated $2 million advance for the book, which is slated for publication in 2010.

"I wanted a topic that offered me the kind of social, media and political context that would enable me to delve into their world as well as them personally," Ms. Brown said.

Bookstore shelves are already crowded with numerous books about the Clintons, including works by both Clintons.

But Stephen Rubin, president of Doubleday Broadway Publishing Group -- which includes the Doubleday imprint -- says Ms. Brown is "going to bring a fresh approach to this subject, as she did with Diana."

Doubleday said there are now more than 300,000 copies of "The Diana Chronicles" in print in the U.S.
