The government expressed doubt about how close an accused Islamist cell may have been to staging suicide attacks in Barcelona, questioning the view of Judge Ismael Moreno of the National Court on Wednesday, when he said that such bombings had been imminent and ordered nine Pakistanis and an Indian arrested last weekend to be kept in custody. On Friday, Interior Minister Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba said the police did not find enough explosives to infer an attack was imminent. He also said the accused cell was probably using the explosives for training purposes, but would have attacked soon.
