New Editor Named in San Francisco

Full Text (139  words)

Ward Bushee, editor of The Arizona Republic, was named executive vice president and editor of The San Francisco Chronicle, succeeding Phil Bronstein.

Mr. Bushee had been editor of The Republic, which is owned by the Gannett Company, since 2002. His appointment at The Chronicle, which is owned by the Hearst Corporation, is effective Feb. 1, Hearst said Friday.

Mr. Bronstein, 57, is taking a wider role at Hearst. He was named editor at large and put in charge of investigative projects that may involve multiple Hearst newspapers, the company said Wednesday. He will also write for The Chronicle and work with Hearst's general counsel on First Amendment issues.

The Arizona Republic, based in Phoenix, said Randy Lovely, 43, would succeed Mr. Bushee. He joined the paper in 2002 as managing editor and was promoted to executive editor in 2005.
