CLEARY--Donald Gerard, formerly Brother Bede Vincent, F.C.S. of Harrison, NY died at Northern Westchester Hospital, Mount Kisco, NY on January 24, 2008 after a short illness. He was born in New York City on June 18, 1931 to Joseph T. and Mary J. Eichler Cleary. He was the brother of Joseph Cleary II (Hilda), Robert (Rip), Cleary (Mo) and the late Vincent and John Cleary. Uncle of Hilda Nolan (Joseph), Ann Marie Daly (James), Kathy Atkinson (Kenneth), Joseph Cleary III (Patricia), Therese Long (Robert), Patrick Cleary, Erin Trevina (Eric), Trina Honig and Nikki Bate. Great-uncle of several grand nieces and nephews. He is survived by many friends. He graduated from St. John's Grade School 1945 and St. Nicholas of Tolentine High School 1949. He entered the De La Salle Christian Brothers in 1948 for his novitiate at Barrytown, NY and professed his final vows in 1956. He attended Catholic University, Washington, DC 1950 to 1952. He began his studies at Manhattan College, New York, NY in 1952 from which he received a BSS in 1956 and an MA in Education in 1962. As Brother Bede Vincent beginning in 1952, he taught at Hillside Hall, Troy, NY, St. Cecilia, Brooklyn, NY, Sacred Heart, New York, NY, Good Shepherd, New York, NY and St. Bernard's High School where he also was Sub Director. In 1964, he began teaching at Manhattan Prep, New York, NY and later joined the Admissions Department at Manhattan College, New York, NY. After leaving the brothers in 1972, he became a Guidance Counselor at Clarkstown South High School, Clarkstown, NY from which he retired after 19 years of dedicated service. Resting at Beecher Funeral Home, Pleasantville, NY on Sunday, January 27, 2008 from 2pm to 9pm. Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, January 28 at 10am, Holy Innocents Church, Pleasantville, NY. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. The family and friends would like to thank the entire staff at Northern Westchester Hospital and especially the staff of the ICU and 6 West for the wonderful support and loving care rendered to Donald Cleary. In addition, deep appreciation to Scott Klares, M.D., Mount Kisco Medical Group and Hershel Ozick, M.D., Sound Shore Cardiology for their expert care and many kindnesses over the past years.
