'Color Purple' To Close; [Brief]

The Color Purple, the musical adaptation of theAlice Walker novel and the Broadway producing debut of Oprah Winfrey, is closing after its evening performance at the Broadway Theater on Feb. 24. At that time it will have played 910 regular performances and 30 previews. The musical, which has been bringing black theatergoers to Broadway in unprecedented numbers, recouped its original $11 million investment.
